Mayo Clinic - Review in Hospitals, Clinics and Medical Centers, Doctors category from Astoria, New York

I heard your advertising on the radio regarding Type 2 diabetes. What about the people that suffer with Type 1 diabetes ?Type 1 diabetes is much more serious. There is also no cure and more difficult to maintain. Doctors till this day still do not know what triggers Type 1 diabetes to cause the pancreas to just automatically shut down, and make us insulin dependent. Either by injections or wearing an insulin pump 24/7 in conjunction with a sensor and transmitter also attached to you 24/7 Not easy to maintain in most cases. By the way. I am not overweight. Far from it. I am 55 years old. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 20 years ago. At age 35. I am 6 ft. tall and weigh 185 lbs. Type 2 diabetics have more alternatives than Type 1 diabetics. Lots more alternatives. Please stop ignoring Type 1 diabetes. It's a lot more serious than Type 2. I would appreciate if you mentioned Tupe 1 diabetes equally. Thank You. Richard

Yes- Mayo is far too obsessed with themselves to actually care but, most endocrinologists are pretty decent people. These people are aware of the havoc uncontrolled diabetes takes on the human body and soul.

Now, if only those so called "great Mayo doctors" could get this straight and stop wasting time and money on foolish issues and prioritize diabetic research and firmly believe better treatments and a possible cure is on the horizon. We must live life for TODAY and appreciate the fact that scientists isolated insulin a long time ago so we have it so good compared to so many others. Unless we diabetics are careless we can live long and full lives. No one lives forever and life is not perfect.

AS I stated, I am not diminishing the seriousness or harshness of living with diabetes but with current treatment and available medical devices diabetes can be well controlled so things are looking up!!!! TG

I am not disregarding ANY TYPE of DIABETES. No one is well off with diabetes so do not put yourself in a MORE SERIOUS category as that is foolish and uninformed.

Insulin dependence is Insulin dependence. Diagnosis at birth or in childhood is usually considered TYPE 1. Get your facts straight. Also, I tried the new insulin sensor and it was not yet accurate so I am waiting for more research and data until it is.

Even more reason to STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOURSELF IS THAT MOST OF THE TIME DIABETES CAN BE CONTROLLED. IF YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH SOME CONSTRAINT THEN DIABETICS USUALLY DO PRETTY WELL. I did not have a choice in becoming diabetic and most people do not- but, the way you live your life says a lot about diabetes. I had zero choice in developing Ankylosing Spondylitis which has messed me up so badly- my spine is fused, I have constant severe pain and have tried each and every available therapy and suffered numerous hospitalizations as well as near death so DO NOT PUT CONTROLLABLE DIABETES IN WITH THIS+ yet, I still am CONSTANTLY AWARE that many people are MUCH WORSE OFF THAN ME SO I APPRECIATE WHAT I DO HAVE.

If Mayo took chronic pain as seriously as diabetes patients with chronic pain would be fine- instead, we are pushed and forced to achieve some complete other MORAL STANDARD than everyone else. A drunk patient could kill a family in a auto accident and not be denied pain medication. I test positive for something as stupid as POT and my pain medication is denied. I did not ask for either of these diseases.

I was VERY ACTIVE as a youngster, I ran a minimum of about 25 miles a week. I did not gorge myself with sweets or eat badly. Yet, for some reason I developed diabetes. Yes, birth diagnosis is usually the definition of type 1.

But medical researchers also leave that "definition" somewhat OPEN as things and knowledge are changing everyday so ANYONE with diabetes does not have it easy but there are countless HUMANS who have it by far worse so think about that. As I said, with some education and self control diabetes USUALLY can be controlled.

There are ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS so give the humanity a little credit and have some feelings for people suffering from conditions that are uncontrollable- such as cancer, Parkinsons, Mental illness and more and more. TG

As I previously said- fortunately for MOST OF US WITH DIABETES it can be controlled with insulin pumps or injections. A great number of diabetics are also type O blood so more research and information is coming but we have not arrived at any conclusions yet but with some constraint and insulin, diabetes can be controlled so lets think about the people out there with diseases/ conditions that either cannot be controlled or cured.

The great many of US with diabetes can control it so simply remember that many people with diseases that cannot be controlled are far worse off than those of us with insulin dependent diabetes.

I am not in ANY WAY diminishing the "badness" of diabetes but I also had a very special childhood friend who died at age 14 of Leukemia so when I try to put these conditions in order of control I simply must insist that for most of us, due to the availability of insulin, particularly in the Western world, we must have some faith that we are so much better off then so many other humans. Mayo Clinic - Internal Medicine Doctor Review from Black River Falls, Wisconsin

My "doctor", Dr. T. Kanu, in Eau Claire, WI said my lab results and EKG were normal. I have a copy of the results. There are some things on the labs that are low, some high and some normal. The EKG says ABNORMAL right on it! So, how is that "normal"? Especially when you consider my health and family history. I have filed a formal complaint twice with no response! These people are playing with my life! Definitely am looking for a new doctor that is NOT with Mayo!

Mayo Clinic is God. Will not take correction or criticism.

Once you have an issue with them, run.

All care is sketchy after that. No one sues or takes on Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic Surgery Doctor Review from Cook, Minnesota

I had orbital decompression surgery followed by muscle surgery on my eyes performed by dr. White and dr. Garrity at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Prior to these surgeries I was experiencing double vision, however I did have Vision in both of my eyes. I am now completely blind in my left eye and the vision in my right eye is very impaired.I have tried to communicate with the Mayo Clinic through their website which is very difficult. I have received no guidance whatsoever from the Mayo Clinic or the doctors.

Mayo Clinic is very helpful when things go well, when patient is happy, when they look good. If things go wrong, patient unhappy, they discredit you before you can harm to them. Find help elsewhere.

Now that the records are digital, anyone with admin write access can change them at will without anyone noticing. It is great they have one big database and all departments under one roof.

They dont want you getting another opinion outside Mayo so the records get copied somewhere else. a

It is also hard to get an appointment if you have medicare. I had to wait in pain for 7 weeks!

The VA is better than this! That is because they are make medicare go to the back of the line to get the more profitable customers first.
